Cricket is a sport like no other. What makes cricket the most unique sport in the world is one significant factor: the pitch. More so in T20 cricket, where the nature of. The pitch dictates a team’s selected bowling combination, especially with the impact player rule in IPL.

Because the IPL is conducted in India, the tournament sees a variety of pitches across the vast landscape of the country.

The upcoming edition will be spread across 13 cities! The 13 IPL 2026 venues, or the IPL host cities, are Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Kolkata, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Raipur, Dharamsala, New Chandigarh, and Mumbai.

Apart from the 10 premier home cities of each franchise, three teams have a second home as well: Rajasthan Royals (Guwahati), Punjab Kings (Dharamsala), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Raipur).

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been the marquee ground for the BCCI since its inauguration in 2021. However, the opening match of the IPL 2026 will be played in Bengaluru, and the final is also likely to be slated for the Chinnaswamy Stadium since RCB won the trophy last year.

The IPL 2026 venue list and the confirmed IPL grounds are as below.

Pitch Reports and Surface Conditions at IPL 2026 Venues

Let us see the pitch conditions, ergo the batting vs. bowling surfaces across the IPL 2026 venues. In the below IPL 2026 ground report, we have compartmentalized the 13 IPL 2026 grounds into batting and bowling-friendly grounds; the venues that have balanced decks have been slotted into the department they tilt more towards.

We will categorize the venues that have seen a run rate of more than 9 runs per over as high-scoring, batting-friendly grounds; and the grounds that have had a run rate of lower than 9 rpo as bowling-friendly venues.

Since we want to deal with the trend of the pitch’s nature in recent years, we observe the numbers since IPL 2022. Notably, the last time Raipur hosted an IPL match was in 2016. So, we will consider the T20I numbers of this particular venue for our assessment.

    High Scoring Batting Friendly Grounds

Out of the 13 stadiums allotted for the IPL 2026, we can slot nine into this high-scoring, batting-friendly grounds grouping because runs have flown at over 9 runs per over since IPL 2022.

These batting friendly IPL stadiums 2026 are in Dharamsala (highest IPL run rate of 9.91 since 2022), Kolkata, Raipur, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Mumbai.

Grounds such as Wankhede, M. Chinnaswamy, Narendra Modi Stadium, and Eden Gardens are high total venues and more so chase-favoring venues because of dew in the second half of the night matches.

Bowling Friendly Surfaces and Spinner Havens

Now, coming to the remaining four bowler-friendly venues where the run rate has been below 9 rpo since IPL 2022. They are New Chandigarh (Mullanpur), Lucknow, Guwahati, and Chennai (lowest rpo of only 8.41).

Mullanpur, Lucknow, and Chennai are rated as the most spinner friendly IPL venues. These are low-scoring IPL grounds where spinners have been the dominating force over the past three seasons.

Home Ground Advantage and Team Win Rates in IPL 2026

Every franchise wishes to make their home ground a fortress and their supporting crowd their 12th man. But only a few teams, such as CSK, GT, and MI, have really mastered this art of making the most out of their home conditions.

Let us see which teams have the best home record across the IPL venues 2026.

Top 5 home advantage IPL win percentage by venue:

    1. Chennai Super Kings – 63% win (MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai)
    2. Gujarat Titans – 59% win (Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad)
    3. Rajasthan Royals – 58% win (Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur)
    4. Mumbai Indians – 58% win (Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai)
    5. Kolkata Knight Riders – 55% win (Eden Gardens, Kolkata)

Note: Over the history of the IPL, teams have had to play “home” matches, including playoffs, at other grounds in India due to various reasons. Those games are included in these stats, though the majority of the “home” matches have been played at the franchise’s actual home city.

IPL 2026 Playoffs Venue What Teams and Fans Must Know

The BCCI has so far, until the time of writing, released the schedule of phase 1, that is, matches played from March 28 to April 12. Three Indian states are slated to have elections in this period, and the board will finalize the phase 2 schedule after the poll dates are announced.

There are some speculations regarding the IPL 2026 playoffs venues.

It is all but certain that Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will host the IPL 2026 final and Qualifier 2; the tradition is for Qualifier 2 and the final to be hosted at the same venue.

The Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator are played at a single venue. There is no confirmation of the cities for these two playoff matches in IPL 2026, though Ahmedabad is the likeliest choice, with Mullanpur emerging as a strong candidate too, along with Chennai.

IPL Final 2026 Venue Stadium The Ultimate Showdown Location

Traditionally, the home ground of the defending champions hosts the IPL final. For example, Chennai hosted the IPL 2024 final because CSK had won the IPL 2023 trophy.

Going by this trend, the IPL final 2026 venue stadium should be the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru since RCB are the defending champion. The IPL final 2026 is tentatively scheduled for May 31.

However, it is up to the discretion of the BCCI to decide the venue for the IPL playoffs and final. Over the last few years, the board has shown a tendency to host all important encounters, including World Cup finals, at the gigantic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the biggest cricket stadium in the world with a capacity of 1,32,000 spectators.

Ground Stats and Records Across All IPL 2026 Stadiums

Let’s have an overview of the historical IPL ground statistics for the IPL 2026 venues, including the stadium batting records, the highest T20 score by venue, and the bowling economy by stadium.

SWOT Analysis of the IPL 2026 Venue Strategy

The BCCI has selected 13 IPL 2026 venues spanning the length and breadth of the country – from Dharamshala and Mullanpur to Chennai and Bengaluru; from Ahmedabad and Mumbai to Kolkata and Guwahati. Apart from the 10 home bases, the BCCI will bring action to the secondary “home” grounds of three teams in Guwahati (RR), Raipur (RCB), and Dharamshala (PBKS).

There are some positives as well as drawbacks of the BCCI stadium strategy for this year’s tournament. Let’s do a SWOT analysis of the IPL venue planning.

    • Strengths: Covering all 10 home cities of each franchise, including the iconic grounds in India
    • Weaknesses: Dew-affected evening matches remain a concern for teams
    • Opportunities: Raipur will host an IPL match for the first time since 2016
    • Threats: Cramming 74 matches in two months risks injuries to players

    Conclusion

Knowing the nature of the pitch in play is, of course, crucial for the teams, but it’s also a scrutinized activity for fantasy players for IPL 2026 tips, betting punters, and general fans.

The stats-based analysis of the IPL 2026 venues shows that the tournament is set to continue on the theme of high-scoring matches of the last two seasons since most of the grounds are batting-friendly, with little place for the bowlers to hide.
